For my final semester as a Fashion Technology student, I interned as a pattern maker at the New York City-based brand AREA. I've been a fan of the brand for a very long time, and it's always been a dream of mine to work in the fashion industry of New York and be part of all the major fashion events that take place in the city. This experience has been beyond wonderful and I'm very grateful for the opportunities I got and for the people I met along the way.
When I started my studies in Ghent, I never would've thought I would be finishing my degree with an internship in New York City.
During my time at AREA, I had the great opportunity to help with the preparations for New York Fashion Week. Because of confidentiality, I'm only allowed to share a few pictures from the show. Together with the other interns, I worked on the pink feathered garments shown at the Spring Summer 2023 collection and some small adjustments or finishing touches on various other designs.
Apart from this, I also worked on the Resort Collection of 2024. For this collection, I helped craft multiple patterns. some of which were, sadly enough, canceled, but some went into production. The ones I made or helped make, that were approved for the final collection line-up, are shown below.
My 3-month internship ended with the Met Gala. We had the opportunity to make a custom look for a celebrity who was invited to the gala, but unfortunately, they decided not to wear the design last minute. Because of this reason, I'm also not able to share pictures of this process and design.
